GAUGE
• Gauge is not critical for this project.
Supplies:
• Blue Sky Fibers Yarn in Cranberry Compote and Wild Thyme
• Prym crochet hook size J (6 mm)
• Toilet paper cardboard roll
• Ruler and pencil
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch marker
• Polyfill
ABBREVIATIONS
• ch = chain
• rnd(s) = rounds
• sc = single crochet
• st(s) = stitches
• sl st = slip stitch
• beg = beginning
Begin:
1. Using a ruler and pencil, make a line ½
inch down from the edge of the toilet
paper cardboard roll. Cut along the
marked line.
2. Wind approximately 12 yards (10.97
meters) into a small yarn ball. You will use this ball to wrap the yarn for the brim of the hat.
Start Crochet:
1. Make a slip knot and place it on
your hook.
2. Insert your hook through the middle of
the cardboard tube.
3. Yarn over the outside of the tube and pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.
4. Wrap the yarn around the tube 4-5 times.
Round 1:
1. Make a single crochet (sc) stitch around
the tube:
A. Insert your hook through the middle of
the tube.
B. Yarn over the outside of the tube and
pull through a loop (two loops on
your hook).
C. Yarn over and pull the yarn through t
he two loops on your hook.
2. Place a stitch marker in the top of the
first sc.
3. Make sc stitches around the tube,
wrapping the yarn 4-5 times around the
tube between stitches until the stitches
and the wrap completely cover the tube,
ending with an even number of stitches.
(Exact stitch count is not important; the
goal is to completely cover the tube with
yarn wrap and sc stitches.)
4. Slip stitch (sl st) into the top of the first sc made to join (the st with the stitch marker). Remove the marker.
Round 5:
1. Decrease round: Chain 1 (place marker), sc in every other st.
2. Slip stitch into the top of the first sc to join, and reposition the marker.
Closing Hat:
1. Fasten off.
2. Thread the end of the yarn onto a
tapestry needle and sew through the
remaining stitches, pulling to close;
weave in ends.
FINISHING:
Following the Pom-Pom Maker package
directions, make a small pom-pom. Tie
off the pom-pom with a 20-inch (50.8 cm) length of contrasting color yarn. Tie a knot 5 inches (12.7 cm) from the loose ends of yarn. Create a second small pom-pom, tie off with the ends of the pom-pom tassel, and trim to shape the final pom-pom.
