Construction Instructions:
Cutting requirements assume WOF is 44”. All seams should be sewn at ¼” unless otherwise specified.
- Cut the dark blue fabric into the following strips:
- Seven (7) 6 ½” x WOF
- Eleven (11) 2 ½” x WOF
- Sub-cut the 6 ½" wide strips into forty-two (42) squares of 6 ½" each; only forty-one (41) are needed for the quilt.
- Cut the white fabric into thirteen (13) strips, each 2 ½” x WOF.
- Create nine-patch blocks:
- Sew (3) dark blue/white/dark blue strip sets together.
- Press seams to the dark fabric.
- Sub-cut these strip sets into forty (40) pieces, each 2 ½" x 6 ½".
- Sew (6) white/dark blue/white strip sets together.
- Press seams to the dark fabric.
- Sub-cut these into eighty (80) pieces, 2 ½" x 6 ½”.
- Sew blocks together for a total of (40) nine-patches.
- Following the layout pattern, sew blocks together. Press seams toward the solid blocks so row seams nest properly. The finished tree skirt top will measure 54" square.
- Piece the backing fabric to create a 60” square.
- Layer tree skirt top, batting and backing together to form a quilt sandwich Baste using curved pins.
- Quilt by top-stitching with an extended stitch length according to your desired quilting pattern.
- Print and assemble the pattern pieces. Cut out the skirt following the pattern instructions.
- Prepare bias binding as described in the pattern and attach it to tree skirt.
- Mark eyelet placement on one side of tree skirt opening. Use the VARIO Creative Tool to attach eyelets to this side. TIP: Attach an eyelet to a scrap piece of quilted tree skirt and use it as a template for consistent positioning.
- Lay the skirt side with eyelets over the other side, mark matching positions, and install the corresponding eyelets using the VARIO Creative Tool.
- Construct ties:
- Cut medium blue small floral fabric into (3) 5” x 36” strips.
- Fold strips in half-length wise, right sides together, and press.
- Sew three sides leaving an opening for turning.
- Turn right sides out, use a point turner on corners, press, and topstitch around all sides to close the openings neatly.
- Thread the ties through the eyelets and tie them into bows.
