Supplies:

  • Felt
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Paper
  • Embroidery Hoop- 6in or smaller
  • Poly-Fil stuffing

Steps:

1. Print or draw a shape template (like a circle, tree, star, or mitten) on paper.

2. Place the felt sheet into an embroidery hoop and lightly trace your template shape onto the felt using the Dritz Chalk Cartridge- color of chalk will depend on color of felt chosen.

3. Choose an embroidery needle from Dritz Needle Compact and pull 2-3 strands of floss apart and thread needle

4. Tie a knot into the end of floss to keep embroidery in place at the start.

5. Embroider details (like faces, patterns, or accents) within the traced shape using embroidery floss. For best results, pull apart 2-3 strands of the embroidery floss rather than using all 6.

6. Remove the felt from the hoop and cut out the shape.

7. Trace and cut a matching shape from a second piece of felt for the back.

8. Thread a needle with one strand of embroidery floss and begin stitching the two shapes together. Leave a 1–2 inch gap to stuff the ornament with poly-fill.

9. Finish stitching the shape closed - tie off your thread securely.

10. Thread more embroidery floss (all 6 strands) through the top of the ornament and tie it into a loop for hanging.
