Construction Instructions:
All seams should be sewn at ¼” unless otherwise specified.
1. Cut the light beige fabric as follows:
- One (1) piece measuring 22” x 29” for the backing.
- One (1) piece measuring 19” x 22” for the background.
2. Prepare fabrics for border
- Cut three (3) strips, each 2” x 8”, from light blue, medium blue, and dark blue fabrics respectively.
- Cut two (2) strips, each 2” x 8”, from gold and white fabrics.
3. Sew these strips together, alternating colors, and press seams toward the darker fabrics. The finished panel should measure approximately 19” x 8”.
4. Subcut the striped panel into piano-key border segments:
- One (1) piece measuring 19” x 3 ½”.
- One (1) piece measuring 19” x 2”.
5. Attach the 2” piano-key border to the top edge of the background fabric. Attach the 3 ½” border to the bottom edge. Trim the sides if necessary to ensure they are even.
6. Create a quilt sandwich and secure the layers using pin basting
7. Quilt by top-stitching with an extended stitch length according to your desired quilting pattern.
8. Print the pattern and assemble if on multiple sheets. Roughly cut out the individual pattern pieces. Tip: Printing two copies can facilitate cutting overlapping pieces separately.
9. To prepare menorah pieces for appliqué:
- Position pattern pieces on their corresponding fabric colors and rough-cut to size (flame pieces excepted).
- Apply craft fuse to the reverse side of each piece per manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Use fabric glue stick to adhere pattern pieces to the wrong side, then cut out each shape precisely. Tip: Employ a pressing sheet to protect the iron from adhesive residue.
10. Position the menorah base onto the wall hanging, referring to imagery for placement. Secure edges with a zig-zag stitch.
11. Evenly place and affix the menorah arms, finishing raw edges with a zig-zag stitch
12. Place the candles, star and candle cup on the wall hanging and use a zig-zag stitch to cover raw edges.
13. Attach candle bases, ensuring coverage of both candle and menorah arm ends; finish using a zig-zag stitch along the raw edges.
14. For the gold flames:
- Rough-cut gold fabric large enough for all flame shapes. Cut second piece of equal size.
- Apply single-sided fusible interfacing to one piece’s wrong side.
- Apply double-sided craft fuse to the wrong side of the other.
- Bond both pieces together.
- Affix pattern pieces with glue stick to the layered gold fabric and sew along the outline. Tip: Utilize a short stitch length to facilitate easy removal of paper after stitching.
- With the VARIO Creative Tool, attach the male portion of yellow snaps to the center of each flame.
- Trim flames to within approximately 1/8” of the stitching lines and seal with Fray Check.
15. Arrange flames on the wall hanging, mark snap locations, and affix the female side of transparent snaps. Tip: Substitute white studs for transparent ones if a more opaque look is preferred.
16. To construct corner pockets for a hanging rod:
- Cut two (2) 4” squares from the light beige fabric.
- Fold each square diagonally and press.
- Position pockets on the upper corners of the wall hanging’s reverse side.
- Baste in place 1/8” from the raw edge.
17. Cut dark blue fabric into 2” width-of-fabric (WOF) strips for binding. Attach binding, ensuring the raw edges of rod pockets are secured.
18. Press the entire project flat.
19. Insert a dowel rod through corner pockets to complete the wall hanging display.
