Instructions:
Note: All seams are 1/2” seam allowance unless otherwise noted. Backstitch at the start
and end of each seam.
1. Cut fabric to size.
Using rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler, cut fabric to size as indicated:
Large bag
• Outer bag: 2 light blue 7” x 11” and
2 dark blue 5” x 11”
• Lining: 2 dark blue 12” x 11”
Small bag
• Outer bag: 2 dark blue 5” x 10” and
2 light blue 6” x 10”
• Lining: 2 pale blue 8” x 10”

2. Sew outer bag and lining.
For outer bag, use light fabric for upper part of bag and dark fabric for lower section.
Layer one light and one dark piece right sides together, with the width edges matched up, and sew together. Repeat for the other set. Press seams toward the dark side on each panel. Match the two panels right sides together, and sew around all three sides, leaving the top open. For lining, pin the panels with right sides together. Sew around both sides and the bottom of the bag, leaving an opening of a few inches at the bottom to turn the bag inside out later on.

3. Box corners.
Take the lining, right sides together, and at one bottom corner, pull the sides apart and
lay the side seam against the bottom seam to form a point. Starting at top of seam,
measure down along the seam (for larger bag, measure 1 1/2” and for smaller bag, 1”).
Use a pen or pins to mark a line perpendicular to the seam, and pin in place. Turn the pinned corner right side out to ensure seams match up. Repeat for the other corner of the lining and for the two corners of the outer bag. Mark and sew front of bag back of bag clip corner after sewing side seam
Sew along the line, and then use scissors to clip off the corner about 1/4” from seam. Do this for both corners of the lining and outer bag.

4. Finish sewing.
Turn the outer bag so the right side is face out. Place it inside the lining, which should be face in. With the right sides together, match up the seams, finger press open, align the top edges and pin in place. Sew around the top of the bag. Pull the bags through the opening at the bottom of the lining so the right side is facing out. Sew closed the opening in the lining and replace lining into outer bag. Use an iron to press the top seam so bag and lining match up
neatly. Use sewing machine to topstitch about 3/8” from the top edge of the bag.

5. Mark placement of eyelets.
Lay ruler across the top of bag, measuring 2 inches (or desired distance) from the top.
To space eyelets evenly, first measure the distance between side seams, and multiply
by 2 to get the circumference. Divide this number by the number of eyelets to be used
(e.g. 8), to get the distance between eyelets. For example:
Bag width = 10”
Circumference = 10” x 2 = 20”
Eyelet spacing = 20” ÷ 8 = 2.5”
Bag width = 11”
Circumference = 11” x 2 = 22”
Eyelet spacing = 22” ÷ 8 = 2.75”
Find the center of the bag between the seams, either with a ruler, or simply lay the bag
flat and fold in half left to right. From the center, measure half of the distance between
eyelets and mark with a pen. For example:
Mark from center = 2.5” ÷ 2 = 1.25” Mark from center = 2.75” ÷ 2 = 1.375”
After marking the first two points from the center, move the ruler and mark the full distance from the first mark, and do the same on the other side of the center point.

6. Punch holes and set eyelets.
Smooth the bag flat and pin along the top and sides. This will keep the fabric in position
to punch holes through both sides of the bag at the same time.
Refer to this video for a demonstration of the Vario Creative Tool.
a. Punch holes.
Insert 11mm hole punch tools from the tool set into the Vario Creative Tool as
indicated in the product instructions. Center first pen mark over round base. Holding the four layers of fabric in place, firmly push down the handle of the Vario Creative Tool to punch through all layers. Keep fabric in place and lift handle to ensure all fabric is punched. Repeat for the remaining marked spots on the bag. Use a pin to clear punched fabric from the tool as needed. After all holes are punched, remove
the punch tools from the Vario Creative Tool.
b. Insert eyelets.
Remove pins from bag. Insert the 11mm eyelet-setting tools in the Vario Creative
Tool as indicated in the product guide. Insert an eyelet through one hole in the outer bag and lining. Place the eyelet face down snugly into the base of the eyelet tool. Place a washer over the eyelet, closed side up. Firmly push down the handle of the Vario Creative Tool to set the eyelet. Follow these steps to set eyelets in all
remaining holes.

7. Add drawstring.
Lace cord through eyelets, beginning at the center of one side, weaving in and out of eyelets and emerging at the eyelet adjacent to the first one. Allow enough cord to tie closed and trim off. Tie a knot in each end of the cord to prevent fraying.
