- 14" 360 Rotating Mat Set
- Square Ruler, 12-1/2" x 12-1/2"
- Fold Away Cutting and Pressing Station, 12” x 18”
- Mighty Steam Iron
- 4 Fat Quarters or 10”x10” Squares of Accent Quilting Fabrics
Cutting Instructions:
Refer to the pattern for fabric cutting measurements.
Center Unit Construction:
1. Arrange the four 2” x 5” rectangles around the 3 ½” background square.
2. Pin the top rectangle to the square, keeping one end flush and allowing the other end to overhang.
3. Sew the rectangle to the square, starting at the flush end and stopping abt 1” from the other end of the square.
4. Press seam towards the rectangle.
5. Pin and sew the next rectangle to the left side of the block. Press seam toward the rectangle.
6. Pin and sew the third rectangle to the bottom of the block. Press seam toward the rectangle.
7. To finish the block, fold the first strip back and pin the last rectangle to the right side. Sew in place and press seam toward the rectangle.
8. Return to the first rectangle and finish sewing it to the block. Press seam toward the rectangle. Square block if necessary.
Block Layout:
9. Using the pattern diagram for placement, lay out the center unit and the corresponding fabric pieces. TIP: Snap a photo so you have something to refer to while constructing the block.
Side Unit Construction:
10. Select two 2” squares of each accent fabric. On the wrong side of each, mark a diagonal line from one corner to the other.
11. With Right-Sides Together (RST), pin two corresponding squares in the corners of a side background piece. Sew on the marked lines.
12. Press seams towards the triangle corners. Trim the corners a ¼” away from the stitched lines.
13. Repeat with the remaining marked accent squares and side background pieces.
Corner Unit Construction:
14. Sew the remaining 2” accent fabric squares to the 2” background squares. Press seams to the accent fabric.
15. Pin and sew the corresponding accent rectangles to the corner two-patches. Press seams to the accent rectangle.
Block Construction:
16. Lay all the finished units out and use the pattern diagram to double check for correct placement and orientation.
17. Pin and sew the units into rows.
18. Press Rows 1 & 3 toward the outside. Press Row 2 toward the middle.
19. Pin and sew the rows together. The seams should nest.
20. Press rows as desired.
21. Square block to 12 ½”.
